PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release

October 31, 2022

From: The Appomattox Community
& Disaster Relief Organization
Tom Adams, Chairman

We are very happy with the amount of donations collected to help the fire victims from the Stonewall area. The items collected up to this point have been turned over to them as well as the $1000 raised through the generous support of our Appomattox neighbors. The Appomattox Community & Disaster Relief was humbled by the number of folks willing to step forward with their donations. It will not replace everything they lost, but these donations will help to get them started again. We will continue to collect personal items, furniture, clothing and money to assist any victims in the future of a disaster or emergency situation such as this one. We have storage space for items collected and we hope that our friends and neighbors in Appomattox and beyond, will continue to support our efforts. For this family, we are winding down our collections and getting them some specific items they need that were not addressed by our donors.

At our meeting, this Thursday, November 3rd at 7pm at the New Geneva Christian Education Center 222 Harrell St in downtown Appomattox, we will collect our final donations from anyone who would like to stop by and drop those items off to us directly, it would be greatly appreciated. One thing the family is in great need of, is a new apartment. They need a place to live, since their former home is no longer livable. If anyone has, or knows of, a 3 bedroom apartment that this family can begin to call home, please let us know and we will get them into touch with the landlord. These children need some stability in their lives so they can begin to feel normal again and be able to attend Appomattox schools with their friends. We are looking to make this happen and can only accomplish this with your help.

The Appomattox Community & Disaster Relief organization has launched our new website, AppomattoxCares.org, as well as a Facebook page (@APX.ACDR) and Twitter (@ApxCDR). Please feel free to visit our website and visit us on social media where “following” us, “liking” us and “sharing” our posts is greatly appreciated. You can even contact us at 434-998-1202; apx.acdr@gmail.com or at PO Box 2835 Appomattox, VA 24522-2835. Thank you for your support!
